August Lookbook

So August has sadly come to a close and so has my last summer vacation. This time next year I will (hopefully) be a Real Nurse with a Real Job. Anywho, these are all of my outfits for the month of August. My favorite is the yellow dress.

Crystin's Fall-Haul

My semester starts up again on Thursday, and though I'm not looking forward to the late-night studying, a renewed caffeine addiction, and the overall stress of nursing school, I do love that school is an awesome excuse to go shopping. Am I too old for school shopping? Oh well! It's my last year, don't judge me! Anywho, here are the things I bought during my school shopping trip Fall-Haul.

Accessories

Skirts

Khaki Skirt from H&M

Shoes

Tops and Scarves
I guess that I'm very much into browns and stripes this fall. I'm not quite sure why that is, but I love it!

Outfit: American Disaster

Last week was ca-razy! We had an earthquake, a hurricane tropical storm, and a tornado! Luckily, things weren't too bad over here. Anywho, I made a post about these shorts a long long time ago (a little over a month) when I had absolutely NO followers. I've come a long way! I saw some American flag shorts at Topshop and wanted them, but refused to pay fifty bucks. I took some ugly thrift store shorts I had, cut them a little shorter, and painted the American flag on em. Then I went all Crystin the Carpenter on these bad boys and used some of my dad's sand paper to make the holes.

Like most cats, Riley is very nosy. Every time I take pictures, he comes outside and watches me. What a creeper! Anyway, here's how you can make the shorts:

1. Get some old unwanted shorts. Cut them to the desired length.
2. Paint one half of the shorts blue.
3. While that's drying, take a ruler and a pencil, and draw the stripes on the other half. Make sure the pencil is light enough that you can paint over it.
4. Paint every other stripe red. Let this side dry.
5. Draw or print a star in the size you want on a piece of cardboard or paper. Take that and place it on a sponge and cut the sponge in the shape of the star.
6. Dip the star in white paint and go crazy on the blue side! (or not, it's your choice)
7. Go to the side with the stripes and paint in the white stripes.
8. Add your own modifications: studs, holes, frayed edges, let your inner Picasso come to life.

Voila! Instant fabulousness!

Outfit: Nothing but Blue Skies

Hi everyone! This is what I wore Sunday to church. I love the color of this shirt. When I saw it in the store, it kept calling me. "Crystin, buy me. BUY ME!" It said. I resisted, but it made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and we ended up walking off into the sunset together, hand in hand arm-hole.

Love the shoes. They're such a different take on the classic nude shoe. The downside is that they're super painful :(

Me again! I'm looking for new places to take pictures.

My makeup. It's purple liquid eyeliner, lavender eyeshadow, and nude lipstick. Me gusta!

One of my favorite watches.

And a blue ring that I made during my early teenage years. I'm so creative. Or...I was anyway.

Outfit: Earthquake!

As most of you know, yesterday we had an earthquake on the east coast. I'm sure most of you laughed at us, but hey, it was a first for most of us! I was driving at the time and felt the tremor a little, but I was mostly confused. I thought it was the bass in my music, then thought it was someone else's music, and then assumed it was just a tractor trailer going by! Yup, I had a blonde moment.

I've actually had this vest for years in this was the first time I wore it. I got it at a thrift store, and just couldn't figure out how to wear it. I've thought about giving it away or throwing it out, but always felt I'd be able to get it together one day. Yesterday was that day! Mr. Jean Vest, you will now receive all of the love and attention I failed to give you all these years.

God Save My Shoes!

So there's a documentary coming out soon about shoes! Specifically, it's about women and their shoes. It was filmed all over the world and features such women as Kelly Rowland, Fergie, Dita von Teese, Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, and Vivienne Westwood. The name of the documentary is God Save My Shoes (duh!).

Here's the trailer:

At first, I thought this was an odd idea for a documentary, but after seeing the trailer it looks kind of interesting (although still quite odd). I don't know about all of you, but personally, I am obsessed with shoes. I'm not quite sure how this came about, especially since I was a tomboy for the first fifteen years of my life. It will be pretty cool to see the documentary's take on my obsession.

Outfit: Meet Beulah

Meet my Go-To Dress. I call her Beulah. Actually, I kinda made that up just now. But every Go-To Dress deserves a name right?

I wear Beulah everywhere. She's easygoing and pretty and I can dress her up or down. She's a no-fuss kinda gal. When I went to Disney World, Beulah came along, and I even matched Minnie Mouse! Pure coincidence, I swear. I did NOT do this on purpose.

Today, I would like to introduce all of you lovely people to something amazing. It's called a PillowPet. Many of you have seen the commercials and, like me, have had thoughts such as "wow, totes dumb" and "seriously? That's such a lame money-making scheme."

Uh, think again.

PillowPets are becoming a hit amongst fashion bloggers, and for good reason. First of all, they're an excellent conversation piece. Second of all, they're so darn cute. I mean, look at this face!

This is Hammy. He was 9.99 at Walgreens. Ever since I carried him home in the cold, he has been like a pet (or a child!) to me and my boyfriend. He goes with us on roadtrips. He makes regular apperances on my blog. He even talks with my help (I do a mean dolphin voice).

I think that PillowPets have the potential to bring couples together. Claire and "Jamesface" of Like Spinning Plates certainly love theirs, which is an Elephant named Herbie. Shybiker recently acquired a panda named Pandy as well. So cute!

Before, I thought that PillowPets were a rip-off and lame. Now, I'm totally converted. They have such personality and they make such comfy head/arm pillows, especially for long roadtrips.

Now that I sound like an obssessive creeper, it's time to talk Pillow Pet fashion. You know, clothing for your PillowPet? KIDDING! What I'd love to see, though, is a PillowPet clutch. I'd make one myself, but I don't think I could stand to cut one up like that...

Do you have a PillowPet? Are you as obsessed as I am? What's its name? Have I swayed you to purchase one and make it your best-est friend? Comment below!

Thanks again to the wonderful Crystin of FashionablyGeeked for letting me be a guest on her wonderful blog. :]

Outfit: I've Got Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

So, I know I said I'd swear off orange for a bit, but that didn't last very long. I wore this on Sunday. It's a sixties style dress (from H&M's new fall collection!) and I tried to do my makeup like Twiggy's, but that was a big 'ole fail and a half. The Twiggy Eye is more complicated than it looks!

The purse used to be my grandmother's. It's so cute and unique, right? The only problem is, I can't carry too much in such a tiny bag, and so I usually have to sacrifice some of the things I carry that day. Like my book and my DS :(

And here, in a true revelation of craziness, I smile insanely at a paper flower. Oh Flower, you so funny!

Later that night, I went out to eat with my cousins and wore the same dress. I switched the orange belt for a black one and wore some black flats. Voila! It was a slightly different look suitable for a casual night on the town. It's all in the accessories, Baby!

My stuff! (What's in My bag)

Here are some of the things I pulled out of my [favorite] bag. I decided for the sake of aesthetics, I'd leave out all the loose change, food, etc.

My Bag-It's leopard print so sadly, I can't take it everywhere. But if I'm wearing all black or some other neutral, I bring it out to play!

L'Oreal Nude Lipstick in Toasted Almond-I finally found a nude lipstick in a color that fit me!

Wet Wipes-Cause you never know

A Book

Shades-My favorite Aviators. Got em from Forever21.

My Wallet-Also from Forever21

Maybelline Falsies Mascara-Whenever I wear it people really ask me if I'm wearing false lashes (I sound like an ad!)

Hand Sanitizer-What can I say? Nursing school turned me into a hypochondriac.

Bath and Body Works lip gloss, cinnamint flavor

Clean and Clear Facial Moisturizer

Comb-In case of emergency

Uhhh...My Inhaler

Scrunchies and Hair Pins (I got caught at school once with crazy hair and no scrunchie. Never again!)

A pen-For that all-important moment when an idea hits me and I finally write my first novel (lol)

Bath and Body Works Lotion in Peach Citrus

My Nintendo DS with Hello Kitty Decals-In case of boredom

An American in Paris: How to dress Parisian Chic!

During a brief foray into Parisian fashion, I discovered something: Parisians are not trendy (insert shocked gasp here). They are classically and effortlessly fashionable, but they do not follow trends, and they will look down on you if you come to their city dressed like a trendy American tourist.

Here's how to go to Paris dressed like a Parisian (alternatively, if you want to stand out or don't care what they think, then hey, do you!)

1. Stripes!
Parisians love their black and white stripes. Wear a nice striped shirt and you'll be effortless.

2. Subtlety is key.
Colors in Paris tend to be subtle. They favor blacks, browns, and greys. To spice it up, often a "pop" of color is worn, like a purple scarf or red shoe.

Outfit:Think I'm Stuck in a Rut

I'm starting to feel like I'm stuck in a rut for two reasons: One is that, I'm still an amateur at this whole posing for my blog thing. I kinda just stand in front of the camera and smile like a goofball. Maybe I place a hand on my hip for extra emphasis, but yeah, that's it. So, in this picture, my well-hidden awkwardness finally begins to rear its misshapen head. Guess it had to happen sooner or later!

The other reason I'm feeling like I'm stuck in a rut, is because my last few outfits have been very similar. I need to step out of the box. I'm currently obsessed with orange and it certainly is showing. So yeah, I'm going to swear it off for a week. I think I need OA: Orange Anonymous!

But other than those two things, I kinda like this outfit. It's super bright and it's my attempt at color blocking (though in this case it's probably more like color mixing) Have a good saturday guys!

Outfit: The Lace is back!

So maybe you recognize this orange shirt from a few posts ago. I decided to pair it with blue shorts this time. I love the wingtip oxfords I'm wearing in this picture. Why? Because so many people dislike them. I'm just arbitrary that way.

To be honest, the outfit felt a bit risky when I put it on this morning. I wasn't quite sure if I looked "put-together" enough. But then I decided, hey, forget being put-together! I felt good in the outfit and that's what mattered ;)

My new ring from H&M, set off by some awesome Sally Hansen green nail polish done at the Nail Salon du Jour du Moulin Rouge du Moi (I don't exactly know what all those French words mean but they sounded cool in my head, so I went with it). Basically I did it myself.

My little brother takes most of my pictures, although I usually take the close-ups of my face like the one above (yes, I know I am a very talented self-portrait taker. Please hold your applause til the end).

From Runway to Reality: The Bright Pant

As summer comes to a close, it's time to start looking at fall fashions. During the most recent fall/winter fashion shows, we saw designers re-vamping many new trends, including the Bright Colored Pants.

Here are some ideas to transfer this bold look to real life:

Bright Colored Pant

Summer to Fall Brights

How to be Normal: A guide for beginners

1. Stop Thinking
This is the first and most important step. One of the great things about being normal is that you don't have to think! Others can do the thinking for you. Not sure what to wear in the morning? Ask your mother/boyfriend/roommate/random person on the street. Those pesky thoughts will get in the way of your day. Get rid of em!

2. Follow Trends to the Letter
That's right! Normal people follow the trends, whether they know it or not.  This makes it easier to blend in with the crowd. Look around you. What do you see most around you? Copy it! Of course, there is a fine line between following the trends absent-mindedly and being "trendy." Never ever be spotted wearing a trend first! Always wait for a few others to wear it before you jump on the bandwagon. This will ensure you are not perceived as being unique. Have you ever seen Star Wars? Strive to be like the clones! They all walk around in white suits, obeying orders from a higher person. Perfect!

3. You are ugly and you are proud!
Don't think you're ugly? You're making a mistake right there! You need to go back to step number one. Stop thinking! Insult yourself. Say you're too fat, even if you weigh 90 pounds soaking wet.  Say you're a hideous monster-butt-face, even though you're drop dead gorgeous. Say you have hair like Medusa, even if you should be modeling for a shampoo commercial. This is what normal people do.

4. Sweats, uggs, leggings for pants, and flip-flops rule the world.
You must have these staples in your closet, especially if you are in college. You must wear them everyday, no matter the time of year. Wear your uggs in the summer and your flip-flops in the winter. And you know what's even better? Wearing your pajamas to class! Now that's what I call normal!

5. Above all, avoid personality!
You don't have a favorite color. You don't have a favorite anything. Favorites are for those with spines! The goal here is to avoid standing out at all costs. Laugh at those who do stand out. Only wear bright colors if others are doing the same. Try to avoid bold patterns. Never ever wear heels anywhere! Wear teensy-weensy shorts as soon as the temperature breaks 70 degrees. Wear Hollister, Abercrombie, and Aeropostale all the time.

If you find that you cannot follow these rules, you are not meant to be normal.
