Five Easy Ways to Increase Your Blog Traffic

Everyone says that "content is king." Meaning that if your blog has good content, the traffic and viewers will flock in of their own accord. Although content will make your viewers stick around, they have to discover your blog first. Here's how you can make your blog more open to discovery.

Join

  •  Join everything! You might not be able to actively participate in everything, (unless of course you have eight arms and four computers.) but figure out which sites work best for you as a fashion blogger and take it from there. Each can be utilized for different things.
  • Twitter and facebook are the most basic sites that everyone should use.
  • There's also chictopia, polyvore, pinterest, tumblr, lookbook, stylesays, youtube, and many more. Personally, I had a tumblr way before I started my fashion blog. I had already built a small following there, so it was easy to use that network for Fashionably Geeked.

Network

  • This is a very large portion of getting visibility to your blog. One of the biggest networking communities on the internet is Independent Fashion Bloggers. It's incredibly easy for you to discover bloggers and for others to discover you.
  • Interviewing and guest posts: A great way to both gain exposure and find fellow blogger friends. Most fashion bloggers love to be interviewed.
  • Comment: Comment on others' blogs and maybe put your link as your signature. Be careful with this, however, some bloggers absolutely hate that. Be courteous and sincere. One of my current blogger friends (Kat Mellon) commented on probably five of my outfit posts in one shot. She was so sincere and I could tell she was really looking at my blog, not just looking for a new follower, so of course I was inclined to follow her!

How to take your button-up from ordinary to fabulous

Here's a simple way to turn a simple clothing item (a plain button-up shirt here) into a very stylish outfit. My outfit started out with this orange shirt and a pair of dark-wash jeans.

To spice it up, all I had to do was add a belt:

A collar necklace:

And a cute headband:

Voila! You have a casual, but still stylish outfit.

An American in Paris: How to dress Parisian Chic!

During a brief foray into Parisian fashion, I discovered something: Parisians are not trendy (insert shocked gasp here). They are classically and effortlessly fashionable, but they do not follow trends, and they will look down on you if you come to their city dressed like a trendy American tourist.

Here's how to go to Paris dressed like a Parisian (alternatively, if you want to stand out or don't care what they think, then hey, do you!)

1. Stripes!
Parisians love their black and white stripes. Wear a nice striped shirt and you'll be effortless.

2. Subtlety is key.
Colors in Paris tend to be subtle. They favor blacks, browns, and greys. To spice it up, often a "pop" of color is worn, like a purple scarf or red shoe.

How to be Normal: A guide for beginners

1. Stop Thinking
This is the first and most important step. One of the great things about being normal is that you don't have to think! Others can do the thinking for you. Not sure what to wear in the morning? Ask your mother/boyfriend/roommate/random person on the street. Those pesky thoughts will get in the way of your day. Get rid of em!

2. Follow Trends to the Letter
That's right! Normal people follow the trends, whether they know it or not.  This makes it easier to blend in with the crowd. Look around you. What do you see most around you? Copy it! Of course, there is a fine line between following the trends absent-mindedly and being "trendy." Never ever be spotted wearing a trend first! Always wait for a few others to wear it before you jump on the bandwagon. This will ensure you are not perceived as being unique. Have you ever seen Star Wars? Strive to be like the clones! They all walk around in white suits, obeying orders from a higher person. Perfect!

3. You are ugly and you are proud!
Don't think you're ugly? You're making a mistake right there! You need to go back to step number one. Stop thinking! Insult yourself. Say you're too fat, even if you weigh 90 pounds soaking wet.  Say you're a hideous monster-butt-face, even though you're drop dead gorgeous. Say you have hair like Medusa, even if you should be modeling for a shampoo commercial. This is what normal people do.

4. Sweats, uggs, leggings for pants, and flip-flops rule the world.
You must have these staples in your closet, especially if you are in college. You must wear them everyday, no matter the time of year. Wear your uggs in the summer and your flip-flops in the winter. And you know what's even better? Wearing your pajamas to class! Now that's what I call normal!

5. Above all, avoid personality!
You don't have a favorite color. You don't have a favorite anything. Favorites are for those with spines! The goal here is to avoid standing out at all costs. Laugh at those who do stand out. Only wear bright colors if others are doing the same. Try to avoid bold patterns. Never ever wear heels anywhere! Wear teensy-weensy shorts as soon as the temperature breaks 70 degrees. Wear Hollister, Abercrombie, and Aeropostale all the time.

If you find that you cannot follow these rules, you are not meant to be normal.

How to Wear Red Lipstick

Beauty-wise, most women are afraid of one thing:
That's right, red lipstick. There's no hiding when you're wearing red lipstick. It's almost like having a big huge blinking arrow above your head that screams "LOOK AT ME." And then, you come up with excuses for why you can't wear red lipstick. You're too young. You're too old. Your lips are too big. Your lips are too small. Your too pale or too dark. You have nowhere to wear it to.

Here's how you can wear lipstick, no matter who you are, and still pull it off:

1. Try it on
That's all. Just go into your friendly neighborhood MAC store (or macy's or sephora or whatever you prefer), plunk your booty in a chair, and say "SHOW ME YOUR MONEY." Okay, don't actually say that, because they'll probably kick you out, but really, what can it hurt to just try some on? They'll help you pick what shade of red is right for you (you'd be surprised at how many there are), turn you around to face the mirror, and you'll be a new woman ;)

2. Keep it simple
This is not the time to go all out with the makeup. Leave the blush untouched. Use some nice thickening mascara and maybe a very little bit of eyeliner. That's it.  Too much makeup with your red lips and you'll end up looking like a very big clown. Alternatively, if you do like to use all that makeup, you could always get hired at McDonald's and be the resident Ronald. Moving on, here's an example of how to do:

And how not to do:

3. Confidence!
If you're feeling insecure and nervous about your red lips, it will show. Be confident! Pick a shade you're comfortable in and work it. If you're feeling fabulous, everyone will be able to tell.
