Han Solo and Princess Leia

As promised, here are the next two sets inspired by Star Wars characters. I guess it's turning into a series, so I'll be putting the rest under the label of "Star Wars Saga."

 Indiana Jones Han Solo is a legendary character, known for his sarcasm, effortless cool, and his ever-present handgun. This outfit is easy to move in (more ease in getting around the galaxy in that Millenium Falcon!) while still maintaining some of that cool toughness Han exudes.

Leia Organa is incredibly intelligent and outspoken. Even she, however, found herself held captive and enslaved by Jabba the Hutt. Leia's metal bikini is one of the most famous outfits in cinematic history. I admit, I didn't quite know what to do with this iconic outfit, but I like the result :)

These are the Droids You're Looking For

Hi! Here are the first two of a few sets I'll be doing inspired by Star Wars characters! I originally started out with just Darth Vader (I really wanted to do a cape dress, what can I say?) but then I had to do them all. Here are the droids!

First up is C-3PO. This character's a little buttoned-up, very concerned with protocol (which is what happens when you're a protocol droid), yet still eye-catching. He is, after all, covered in head to toe gold.

R2 is a down to earth droid with a sense of humor and a little spunk. An outfit inspired him has to be kept pretty casual, but still have that little quirk ;)

Fighting Evil by Moonlight

Welcome to Part One of my Sailor Series! What better way to start this series off than with my favorite childhood cartoon, Sailor Moon?

When I was a kid, my sister and I were obsessed with Sailor Moon. We rushed home every day after school to watch the Sailor Scouts fight evil with Tuxedo Mask. We knew the whole theme song word-for-word (I'm not ashamed to say that I still know the theme song) and we loved Sailor Moon's hair and outfits. When I was a ten year old aspiring artist and fashion designer, the first thing I tried to draw was Sailor Moon. Needless to say, I had no talent and my brief sketching career ended there. Still though, I do love Sailor Moon's outfits and her meatball head. Rather than regale you with a poor rendering of Sailor Moon, I'll present you with a summery outfit inspired by her.

And yes, I'd wear this in real life.

Ten Things You'll Want This Spring: April Edition

1. Floral Shorts: Floral prints are going to be very big this spring/summer. Wear them in short form with a pretty top for maximum effect.
 

2. Pastel Pants: You've probably already seen pastel pants in the displays of every store from Forever21 to Banana Republic. Mint is my personal favorite, although it can be daunting to wear. Pair it with a white top if you're nervous, or go for pastel color blocking and rock it with peach ;)

3. Sheer Black: I'm sure the last thing you thought about when I said Spring was black. But something that's black and sheer can be very spring-like, especially at night. Wear it with a bright bottom.

4. Clear Umbrella: April showers bring May flowers. Clear umbrellas are so cute and they keep the rain off of your head!

5. Jean Shirt: These have been making a comeback over the past year. You can go for the gusto and wear it with a different colored pair of jean pants, or wear with black, white, or colored pants if you're not up for the risk.

6. White Silk Blouse: A staple you should have in your closet already. It goes with everything.

7. Retro Sunnies: I'm a big fan of retro. I'm also a big fan of sunglasses. I have five or six littering my room already. Plus they spice up any look.

8. Yellow Rain Boots: I'll admit, I've been looking for these everywhere. They remind me of the Morton Salt Girl and I've wanted them since I was little. The ones above have the added advantage of a lace-up front and a subtle wedge for a shorty like me :)

9. Color-Blocked Dress: Color blocking is still in! If you have some trouble pairing things, or want something more subtle than two clashing brights, pick a dress with similar but different colors.

10. Studded Jackets: If you've seen my youtube channel, you know that I LOVE studs. If you can't find/can't afford a studded jacket, buy you're own studs and display your inner DIY goddess!

I've been in a style rut. And it's the kind of rut we all get into and probably never notice. 

I love love LOVE class and sophistication when it comes to clothes and outfits.

 I always usually churn out cute outfits that I have fun with, but fashion-wise, this is no longer a challenge for me. And life's all about challenges, right?

Soooo I decided to do something that was the opposite of my usual look and go for more of a grunge-y kind of thing. Success?

I think I went a little crazy with the FroYo toppings. 

That thorn bush behind me literally stabbed me in the back just before this picture.

The weather here has been AMAZING this week. My cousins and I went out and tried one of those newfangled frozen yogurt bars....and it was delicious. I don't know if it was just the bright colors, the different flavors, or all the topping choices I had before me, but I loved the FroYo and I fully intend to eat my weight in frozen yogurt go there again.

Afterwards, because my cousins are kooky and weird, we decided to explore a humongous library. And by explore, I do not mean play hide and seek for a full 30 minutes. We are entirely too old and sophisticated for such frivolous things ;)

Yay Spring Break! This is my last ever spring break (woohoo!) and Mother Nature decided to bestow amazing weather on the east coast just for me! Which means that I can take pictures in outfits like this without having to act like I'm not cold. Seriously, I should get an Oscar for all the acting I've done! I don't understand how the other bloggers do it. 

On to other things: this blog post is so titled because I am actually wearing NO makeup in these pictures (gasp*). There are days I have where I just don't feel like putting on makeup and as long as I don't look like the pubescent version of Freddy Kreuger, it's all good :)

Describe your style in three words:
My style in three words would be : classic, edgy, quirky. 

What made you decide to start fashion blogging?

I started fashion blogging on a whim. At the time I started my blog, I was working non stop at a Psychological Research lab, and nights at a restaurant as a server. My days were full of to-do's so I wanted a creative outlet. Clothing has always been a passion of mine, so I just though "why not?" I've been doing it almost everyday since, and I love it!

What are your favorite trends for the spring?

 My favorite trends for Spring are the classics; pastels, florals, and whimsical silhouettes. I've also been liking the incorporation of sportier aesthetics in some designers' looks, like Alexander Wang.

What's the most you've ever spent on an item of clothing?

The most I've spent on a clothing item is about $300 for a pair of Rachel Comey Bernard Booties. That's actually a discounted price, too- they're closer to $500. I saved up, and hunted those booties down! They are my favorite pair of shoes.

In your opinion, how is fashion different after college?

After college, fashion is different because you care more. At least, I started to, and I think everyone should. Once you graduate you're kind of propelled into the working world, and every encounter you have is potential for something, so I think you always have to look presentable, even if you're wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, and flats. In college it's ok to roll out of bed in sweats, and show up to class, but you can't do that after. Everyone has a unique personality, and fashion is a great way to bring it to life in a corporate world.

One of my fashion goals for this year (I don't like resolutions, so I just call them goals) was to take more risks fashion-wise. Often, what I used to do was go into the store, see something I liked, but not purchase it because I was afraid. I was afraid to try an outfit and have it bomb, I was afraid to spend money on something I had no clue how to work, and I was afraid to have people make fun of me for wearing something outrageous. So in my first attempt at being fashionably fearless, I bought these bright orange pants. I had no clue what to do with them, but I brought them home, destroyed my closet figuring out how to wear them, and here you have it!

Five Easy Ways to Increase Your Blog Traffic

Everyone says that "content is king." Meaning that if your blog has good content, the traffic and viewers will flock in of their own accord. Although content will make your viewers stick around, they have to discover your blog first. Here's how you can make your blog more open to discovery.

Join

•  Join everything! You might not be able to actively participate in everything, (unless of course you have eight arms and four computers.) but figure out which sites work best for you as a fashion blogger and take it from there. Each can be utilized for different things. 

• Twitter and facebook are the most basic sites that everyone should use. 

• There's also chictopia, polyvore, pinterest, tumblr, lookbook, stylesays, youtube, and many more. Personally, I had a tumblr way before I started my fashion blog. I had already built a small following there, so it was easy to use that network for Fashionably Geeked. 

Network

• This is a very large portion of getting visibility to your blog. One of the biggest networking communities on the internet is Independent Fashion Bloggers. It's incredibly easy for you to discover bloggers and for others to discover you.

• Interviewing and guest posts: A great way to both gain exposure and find fellow blogger friends. Most fashion bloggers love to be interviewed.

• Comment: Comment on others' blogs and maybe put your link as your signature. Be careful with this, however, some bloggers absolutely hate that. Be courteous and sincere. One of my current blogger friends (Kat Mellon) commented on probably five of my outfit posts in one shot. She was so sincere and I could tell she was really looking at my blog, not just looking for a new follower, so of course I was inclined to follow her!

A Steampunk New Year's

So, I tried to come up with a New Year's themed outfit. I started with the shirt, but somehow it turned kind of steampunk-ish. I'd still wear it though :)

An American in Paris: How to dress Parisian Chic!

During a brief foray into Parisian fashion, I discovered something: Parisians are not trendy (insert shocked gasp here). They are classically and effortlessly fashionable, but they do not follow trends, and they will look down on you if you come to their city dressed like a trendy American tourist.

Here's how to go to Paris dressed like a Parisian (alternatively, if you want to stand out or don't care what they think, then hey, do you!)

1. Stripes!
Parisians love their black and white stripes. Wear a nice striped shirt and you'll be effortless.

2. Subtlety is key.
Colors in Paris tend to be subtle. They favor blacks, browns, and greys. To spice it up, often a "pop" of color is worn, like a purple scarf or red shoe.

Outfit:Think I'm Stuck in a Rut

I'm starting to feel like I'm stuck in a rut for two reasons: One is that, I'm still an amateur at this whole posing for my blog thing. I kinda just stand in front of the camera and smile like a goofball. Maybe I place a hand on my hip for extra emphasis, but yeah, that's it. So, in this picture, my well-hidden awkwardness finally begins to rear its misshapen head. Guess it had to happen sooner or later!

The other reason I'm feeling like I'm stuck in a rut, is because my last few outfits have been very similar. I need to step out of the box. I'm currently obsessed with orange and it certainly is showing. So yeah, I'm going to swear it off for a week. I think I need OA: Orange Anonymous! 

But other than those two things, I kinda like this outfit. It's super bright and it's my attempt at color blocking (though in this case it's probably more like color mixing) Have a good saturday guys!

Outfit: The Lace is back!

So maybe you recognize this orange shirt from a few posts ago. I decided to pair it with blue shorts this time. I love the wingtip oxfords I'm wearing in this picture. Why? Because so many people dislike them. I'm just arbitrary that way.

To be honest, the outfit felt a bit risky when I put it on this morning. I wasn't quite sure if I looked "put-together" enough. But then I decided, hey, forget being put-together! I felt good in the outfit and that's what mattered ;)

My new ring from H&M, set off by some awesome Sally Hansen green nail polish done at the Nail Salon du Jour du Moulin Rouge du Moi (I don't exactly know what all those French words mean but they sounded cool in my head, so I went with it). Basically I did it myself.

My little brother takes most of my pictures, although I usually take the close-ups of my face like the one above (yes, I know I am a very talented self-portrait taker. Please hold your applause til the end).
