The Verdict: Jeffrey Campbell's Lita

Never have I met a shoe that screams "I AM FASHION BLOGGER! RAWR!" more than Jeffrey Campbell's Lita. And here's the thing: I don't get it. There are blog trends that I understand. Color blocking: love it. Pastels, neons, bright colors: I get these!. But I'm sorry, these Lita shoes look like something Lady Gaga threw up and then pooped on. It's like your grandma's shoe got trapped into a loveless marriage with a stripper's shoe, produced an obligatory child and named her Lita. Hideous. And the fact that so many people are actually shelling out 160 dollars for this monstrosity? What is happening? I've talked about trends I hate before, but this truly takes the cake. What makes it worse is that these shoes come in a variety of vomit-inducing patterns, shades, and materials.

Want some Ke$ha on your Lita's? There are glittery sparkly ones for you!

Hated your mom's ever-barking poodle? Why not kill it and wear its fur on your feet like a badge of honor!

Or maybe, like me, you're something of a geek and you're a fan of Star Wars.  Hey! Take a pair of Wookies with you everywhere you go.

I hear you in those shoes, klumping around like Hagrid in a glass shop. Goodness knows that I cannot wait for the Litas to die a quick death.

The FashionablyGeeked verdict? This shoe is butt ugly. Ugh.

So now that I've stated my opinion, tell me yours. Do you like these shoes? I won't judge you either way, I promise! :)

  1. I actually think the shoes are cool, and I've seen some design/patterns I like. But, I don't think I would buy a pair for myself. They are cool shoes, but it looks hard to walk with. I'm curious to know, how and where the inspiration for the shoes came about.

    1. I've seen a lot of people who think that the shoes are cool. One thing's for sure: they're pretty attention-getting!

  2. Yes, I'll take some Ke$ha on my lita's.

But in all seriousness, some of those are fuggin' UGLY. Your commentary is spot-on. Now, I think the glittery version of these shoes is cute, but I don't think I could, like, walk with the squashed-up toe thing and the weird sail-boat dip. (If these were wedges, I'd be down with them!)

    1. I think I'd be more okay with them if they were wedges. But that weird heel thing, I can't do it!

  3. this post made me laugh and laugh and laugh... lol!! great writing! now, i like the litas. but i like them on me because i'm big. i don't like these great big shoes on slender legs; it looks silly to me. i hope that's not offensive, but it is my opinion. they are getting a bit ridiculous with them though, there are like 100 styles of the same shoe, and those fur covered ones are horrible. and on top of that, i'm not in the business of spending hundreds of dollars on shoes, so i have 2 bootleg "inspired" pairs, one in black the other in brown.

    1. thanks so much for complimenting my writing! And honestly what bugs me most is the expensive price on the shoe. But hey, if you're getting the inspired pair instead, Kudos to you!

  4. I can't say that I'm a huge fan of this particular style of shoes; however, I do love Jeffrey Campbell and his visions of shoes. I have seen a lot of bloggers rock these and it looks hot! It's just not for me. I do own a pair of his Foxy Wood shoes that have the same heel and platform but the top is different. It looks like an open toed Mary Jane. Perhaps you would like those.

  5. I just cracked up so much! Hahah, you wrote a kind of brutal, but incredibly true opinion on these boots. I feel like I always see so many bloggers wearing great outfits with a pair of clunky-heeled boots like those that I just don't feel belong. And $160?! That's crazy!!

  6. I've been back and forth and the Lita trend myself, but I've finally settled on the side of definitely not liking them. I feel like they only really look good on one specific body type (tall and skinny), and so it just doesn't have the versatility to become a classic - it will definitely (hopefully) be just another passing fad. Although, for some odd reason, after reading your post I have this crazy urge to pair some Litas with a some plaid pants and a blazer. Hmmm.

It's like a Wookie man... LMAO. Funniest thing I've read on a fashion blog, EVER. I dig the geek references - I think we might be destined to be BFFs (best fashion friends)!!

  8. There was Em'ly, dishevelled, walking wildly about, her one egg miraculously hatched within ten hours. The little lonely yellow ball of down went cheeping along behind, following its mother as best it could. What, then, had happened to the established period of incubation? For an instant the thing jeffrey campbell was like a portent, and I was near joining Em'ly in her horrid surprise, when I saw how it all was. The Virginian had taken an egg from a hen which had already been sitting for three weeks.

  9. I've seen a few pictures where people have looked good in them - but other than that, I definitely have to agree. How did these get so popular? I like the similar 'foxy fab' shape, the same chunky heel & platform but instead of a boot, an open toed, t-strap sandal..but these...I just can't do it.

  10. Oh my god...the last two. I have nothing against the regular shoes (although I would never wear them) but the last two...haha

  11. oh my god, someone who agrees with me! people just wear these to be trendy, look at them and look at jeffrey campbell! he rips off good designers and sells them for a lot of money. they don't look good. think for yourself and stop listening to ugly trends to fit in!

  12. These are some of the absolute ugliest shoes I have ever seen in my entire life! They do NOT even look like shoes for women. They look like shoes for a male stripper in a drag show. Very cheap looking. They should only cost $5 because they look that cheap.

  13. I LOVE the "LITA" boot! It Rocks!

  14. You have to know how to wear them and with the right outfit. I am ordering mine tomorrow and can't wait to get them in! They are SO freaking cool! Yes, the price is a bit expensive....but, what's not?

  15. Hahaha so glad i found this article !! Seriously just noticed that a not-so-friend of mine bought this shoes, and for the 300x time of my life I asked myself : "Just why these shoes?" I really don't get the concept of wearing something OBVIOUSLY ugly to look cool. If i could, I'd create a fashion police and i'd punish every single girl who wears this shoes just because they hurt my eyes.
ok sorry for the mad time, i'm just lost, and seriously don't get it ;-)

  16. Haha okay so I just commented on a few other things, but THIS is what brought me here. I saw so many of this on NastyGal (hate the name, love a few of the dresses) and went... that is is uuuuuugggly! And as I am wont to do, I googled "Lita Heel Ugly" to see if I was the only one who was seeing this.
You know what I think it is? besides the unflatteringly chunky tall heel and the hoof-like base of support, the arch flattens out too soon. It makes them awkward, like converse on stilts. The whole point of heels is to ELONGATE the leg, to create a illusion of a longer calve and accentuate the pointed foot. If you're just going to make them super high but without the corresponding slope, what's the freaking point? Like you said, you'll just be clomping around, loud as an executioner crossing the scaffold, in shoes that have NO illusion whatsoever. They're basically just saying "HEY LOOK AT ME! She's really short, but I'M tall!"
Its a shoe that kind of wants to upstage it's wearer.
